There was pandemonium between some supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the largest opposition political party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Twifo Bukuru in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District of the Central Region.
Both supporters had claimed completion ownership of the Community-based Health Planning and Services compound (CHPS compound) that was scheduled for commissioning.
In the full glare of the Member of Parliament, Lawrence Kwabena Agyensam, and the District Chief Executive, Patrick Fiable, these supporters engaged in a heated argument over which political party should be credited with the CHPS Compound.
The NDC supporters assert that the CHPS compound construction was initiated by former MP Forster Annor but was left incomplete after he lost his seat in 2016.
They criticise the NPP for neglecting the project upon taking power.
Despite the current MP’s 2024 election promise to complete it, the compound reportedly still lacks essential facilities such as water.
Additionally, district assembly engineers have yet to evaluate the site, increasing community frustration.
Due to these concerns, NDC supporters prevented the MP from officially commissioning the compound.
The Chief Executive, Patrick Fiable, addressing the confusion surrounding the MP’s visit to the Twifo Bukuru CHPS compound, emphasised that the purpose was community engagement, not commissioning the facility.
He clarified that he had communicated with the MP, Lawrence Kwabena Agyensam, indicating that assembly engineers needed to assess the facility before any official commissioning could occur.
