The Birim Youth Association (BiYA) has petitioned the Office of the Chief of Staff to make public the findings of an investigation into allegations of extortion levelled against the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Birim Central, Hon. Solomon Brako-Kusi.
The allegations were raised by the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, who has accused the MCE of allegedly collecting money from some illegal miners operating within the municipality.
The youth association is now calling for the findings of a reported investigation into the allegations to be made public, arguing that this would help establish the facts and provide clarity on the matter.
Convenor of BiYA, Mr Kingsly G. Adofo, addressing a press conference in Akyem Oda said the matter was brought before the Office of the Chief of Staff in February 2026 and was subsequently referred to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs for investigation.
According to him, the youth group has been informed that the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) conducted the investigation and that its report has since been submitted to the relevant authorities.
Mr Adofo, however, expressed concern over what he described as the continued repetition of the allegations by the MP on various media platforms despite the reported completion of the investigation.
He argued that the continued public discussion of the allegations without the release of the official findings could influence public opinion without giving citizens an opportunity to know the outcome of the investigation.
“We have become aware that somewhere in February 2026, a petition concerning this allegation was brought to your office, upon which the issue was referred to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs for subsequent investigation into the allegation by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB),” the petition stated.
Mr Adofo said the association believes that making the findings public would help establish the facts surrounding the allegations and provide clarity on the matter.
BiYA is therefore calling on the Office of the Chief of Staff to publish the findings and outcome of the reported investigation for public scrutiny.
Mr Adofo said the release of the report would enable members of the public to make informed judgments based on the findings of a state investigative institution rather than relying solely on allegations and counterclaims made through the media.
He identified the establishment of the facts, public education and the protection of the credibility of state investigative institutions as key reasons behind the group’s demand.
“Unfortunately, the continued repetition of these allegations by the Honourable Member of Parliament on the various media platforms despite investigation being conducted creates a situation where public opinion may be influenced by these accusations without the benefit of the official findings of a very competent state institution,” the association stated.
According to Mr Adofo, the publication of the findings would also help protect the reputations and fundamental rights of persons involved in the matter, particularly because the allegations have been discussed publicly.
Mr Adofo stressed that the youth association is not seeking to determine the guilt or otherwise of any person involved in the allegations.
Rather, he said, the group wanted the outcome of the reported investigation to be made available to the public so that the matter could be assessed on the basis of the official findings.
He said the publication of the report would promote accountability, fairness and transparency while strengthening public confidence in the investigative process.
“We therefore respectfully petition your office to publish the findings and outcome of the investigation to the public,” the group stated.
The Convenor further called on the Akim Oda MP, Alexander Akwasi Actual o support the association’s demand for the publication of the findings.
He said making the report public would help ensure transparency and provide an opportunity for the public to assess the allegations based on the outcome of the investigation rather than relying on claims made on various media platforms.
Mr Adofo expressed confidence that the Office of the Chief of Staff would give the petition the urgent attention it deserves.
He maintained that the release of the investigation report would allow the matter involving the Birim Central Municipal Assembly to be examined on the basis of the official findings and could help bring clarity to the allegations.
The association believes that such a step would not only address the concerns surrounding the allegations but also reinforce public confidence in the institutions mandated to investigate matters of public interest.
BiYA is consequently urging the relevant authorities to consider its petition and make the findings available to the public, subject to any applicable legal or investigative restrictions.
