The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that a total of 47 aspirants have successfully filed their nomination forms to contest various positions in the party’s 2026 National Officers Elections.
The National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) said the filing of nominations officially closed at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, bringing the nomination phase of the electoral process to an end.
According to the Committee, 50 individuals had earlier purchased nomination forms to contest the various national officer positions. However, three of the prospective candidates did not complete the filing process before the deadline.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the NOEC, Frederick Opare-Ansah, the Committee said the 47 aspirants who duly filed their forms would now proceed to the next stage of the process—vetting.
The three individuals who purchased nomination forms but did not file them are Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, who had expressed interest in the National Chairperson position; Evans Kodom, who sought to contest the National Communications Director position; and Perpetual Ekua Lomokie Akwada, who had intended to contest the National Women Organiser position.
The NOEC said Mr Boasiako formally communicated his decision to withdraw his candidature to the party.
The Committee acknowledged his communication and expressed appreciation to him for formally notifying it of his decision.
In the case of Mr Kodom, the NOEC explained that he accompanied Dennis Miracles Aboagye during the latter’s filing of nomination forms.
According to the Committee, an announcement was made during the filing process, in Mr Kodom’s presence, indicating that he had decided to withdraw from the contest.
As a result, Mr Aboagye is now the only aspirant proceeding to the vetting stage for the position of National Communications Director.
The NOEC described him as a potentially unopposed candidate, subject to his successful completion of the vetting process and satisfaction of all applicable requirements.
For the National Women Organiser position, the Committee said Ms Akwada failed to present her completed nomination forms to the Secretariat before the 6:00 p.m. deadline.
She will therefore not proceed to the vetting stage.
With nominations officially closed, the NOEC is set to commence the vetting of the 47 aspirants on Monday, August 31, 2026.
The exercise will run through Thursday, September 3, 2026, with aspirants scheduled according to the positions they are seeking.
The vetting schedule is as follows:
– Monday, August 31: National Chairperson, General Secretary and National Treasurer
– Tuesday, September 1: National Vice Chairperson
– Wednesday, September 2: National Organiser and National Youth Organiser
– Thursday, September 3: National Communications Director, National Nasara Organiser and National Women Organiser
The Committee said individual aspirants would receive specific communication on their respective dates, times, venues and other requirements through their designated official communication channels.
The NOEC has consequently urged all aspirants to remain accessible through the contact details provided to the Committee and to respond promptly to any communication or request from the Vetting Committee or the Secretariat.
The Elections Committee commended the aspirants and their representatives for what it described as the orderly manner in which the nomination and filing processes had been conducted.
It also acknowledged the work of its Secretariat and other officials involved in receiving, documenting and securely processing the nomination forms.
The Committee further expressed appreciation to the media, including social media practitioners and platforms, for their coverage of the nomination process and their role in keeping party members and the general public informed.
With the filing phase completed, the NOEC said its immediate priority is to ensure that the vetting process is conducted in an orderly, fair, transparent and credible manner.
It called on all aspirants, their supporters and party members to maintain mutual respect and conduct themselves in ways that promote party unity and confidence in the electoral process.
The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to administering the 2026 National Officers Elections in accordance with the NPP Constitution and the rules and regulations governing the elections.
The completion of the filing process sets the stage for a crucial phase of the NPP’s preparations to elect its next crop of national officers, with the outcome expected to shape the party’s organisational direction ahead of its broader political activities.
