In a major boost to maternal and child healthcare in the Krachi East District, the First Lady and President of the Lordina Foundation, H.E. Lordina Dramani Mahama, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Maternity and Child Health clinic in Asukawkaw.

The facility financed by the Foundation with support from global partners is a direct response to a plea made by the Chief of Akroso-Asukawkaw just one year ago.

This marks the fourth dedicated maternal ward built by the Foundation, following successful projects in Bole, Nkoranza, and Abodom.

During the commissioning, Mrs. Mahama revealed that the project was sparked by an urgent email from Nana Odamu Gyamfi III, the Paramount Chief of the Akroso-Asukawkaw Traditional Area.

The Chief highlighted the life-threatening risks local women faced traveling long distances to access basic delivery services.

”This was no coincidence; it was a call to action,” Mrs. Mahama told the gathered crowd of health officials, traditional leaders, and joyous residents.

“No woman should die while giving life, and no child should start without proper care just because of where they were born.”

The new clinic is designed to provide comprehensive care from prenatal stages through to intensive neonatal support.

Maternity and children’s wards, a fully equipped operating theatre, a delivery room, and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Electric beds, infant incubators, ultrasound machines, ECG monitors, and phototherapy units.

A hybrid solar system integrated with the national grid to ensure the facility remains operational during power outages.

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Akandoh, praised the initiative as a “practical step toward safe and dignified care,” noting Mrs. Mahama’s “unparalleled contributions” to the health of Ghanaian women and children.

In a show of profound gratitude, Nana Odamu Gyamfi III and his elders enstooled Mrs. Mahama as the Development Queen Mother of the Akroso-Asukawkaw Traditional Area, bestowing upon her the stool name Nana Oseadeayo Odamwaa II.

Mrs. Mahama thus urged the Ghana Health Service and the local community to maintain the facility diligently, ensuring it serves generations to come as a symbol of hope and health.
