Mr. Clement Appietu, the proprietor of SMC Heavy Equipment Training Centre, has weighed in on the national dialogue regarding educational reform, advocating for a shift toward entrepreneurship and technical expertise.
Nana Appietu, as he is popularly known in the heavy equipment training sector, is calling on the government to prioritize and invest heavily in vocational and service-based training centers.
He argues that providing hands-on, industry-relevant training is the most effective way to slash unemployment rates and enhance the employability of Ghana’s youth.
In a recent advocacy post on his Facebook page, Mr. Appietu emphasized that the current educational system must move beyond theoretical knowledge.
He noted that focusing on practical application equips individuals to solve real-world problems and serves as a primary driver for national industrialization.
”Education should produce job creators and skilled workers, not just certificate holders looking for jobs,” Appietu stated.
He further argued that skills-based programs are critical for economic diversification and fostering sustainable national development.
By focusing on practical trades, the country can build a workforce capable of sustaining industrial growth rather than relying on a saturated market of traditional job seekers.
Mr. Appietu also highlighted the contributions of SMC Training Institute in addressing these gaps.
