In a significant move to influence the ongoing discourse surrounding Ghana’s fiscal trajectory, members of the Parliamentary Minority Caucus held a high-level consultation with officials from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today, March 16, 2026.
The meeting, initiated by the Minority leadership, served as a platform for the opposition to voice critical feedback regarding recent economic shifts within the country.
The engagement underscored the role of the Minority Caucus in representing varied economic perspectives as stakeholders in Ghana’s governance.
High-ranking members of the caucus gathered at Parliament House to present their assessment of the current economic climate directly to the fund.
The Parliamentary delegation included Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Second Deputy Minority Whip, Hon. Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam , Ranking Member on Finance,
Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Ranking Member on Economy and Development,
Hon. Kweku Agyeman Kwarteng: Chairman on Budget, Hon. Abena Osei-Asare: Chairperson of Public Accounts, Hon. Collins Adomako-Mensah, Deputy Ranking Member on Energy.
The New Patriotic Party was also represented by Deputy General Secretary, Dr. Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko.
Representing the IMF, the delegation was led by Resident Representative Adrian Alter.
He was joined by Mr. Razafimahefa Ivohasina Fizara, Coordinator of AFRITAC West 2, and Mr. Osa Ahinakwah, an economist at the IMF Country Office.
According to a press release issued by the office of the Minority Leader, Hon. Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the dialogue was described as “constructive and mutually beneficial.”
While specific details of the policy feedback remain under wraps, the meeting signals a commitment to collaborative oversight as Ghana navigates its economic recovery program.
