The Member of Parliament for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Kwabena Boateng, Esq., has issued a stern condemnation following the forced closure of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) office in the municipality on Monday, March 16.
The incident, which occurred in the morning, involved a group of youth affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to reports, the group stormed the facility and shuttered its operations to demand the removal of the newly appointed NHIA Municipal Director.
In a press statement, Hon. Boateng characterized the act as a blatant disregard for law and order.
He emphasized that the NHIA is a vital state institution that serves all citizens, regardless of their political affiliation.
”No political group holds the authority to shut down a state institution,” Hon. Boateng stated.
“Such conduct disrupts essential health services, intimidates public officers, and harms ordinary citizens including the elderly, pregnant women, and vulnerable families who depend on the scheme for their healthcare needs.”
The MP, who holds a background in law, insisted that political frustration is no justification for lawlessness.
He underscored that the stability of the community and the strength of the nation’s democracy depend on respect for due process.
Addressing the leadership of the NDC, the MP called for immediate action.
“I call on the leadership of the NDC in Ejisu and at the national level to immediately rein in their supporters and condemn this conduct.
Leadership demands responsibility and discipline.”
Hon. Boateng has also urged the Ghana Police Service to launch a swift investigation into the incident.
He called for the perpetrators to be held accountable, noting that the law must be applied “without fear or favor” to restore order to the constituency.
The Ejisu legislator reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law, stating that intimidation tactics have no place in the progress of the Ejisu constituency.
