The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has expressed deep sorrow over the recent boat accident on the Volta Lake that has claimed several lives, including women and children, with a number of others still unaccounted for.
In a statement issued by its Public Affairs Unit, the sector Minister, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, extended heartfelt condolences to bereaved families on behalf of the Ministry.
Describing the incident as tragic, the Minister assured affected families of the government’s support during this difficult period.
She announced that the Department of Social Welfare has been directed to immediately collaborate with relevant district authorities to engage survivors and families of victims.
According to the Ministry, the intervention will focus on providing psychosocial support and assessing the urgent needs of affected households to help mitigate the impact of the disaster.
The Ministry also used the opportunity to stress the importance of strict adherence to water transport safety measures, urging operators and passengers to comply with established protocols to prevent future incidents.
MoGCSP reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable populations, noting that it will continue to ensure that affected families receive the necessary care and support.
“The Ministry stands in solidarity with all affected persons and assures them that no one will be left behind,” the statement emphasized.
