The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Meteorological Agency, Dr Eric Asuman, has paid a courtesy call on the Sunyanimanhene, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, as part of efforts to strengthen engagement with traditional authorities.
The visit took place on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the chief’s palace in the Bono Region.
Dr. Asuman led a delegation comprising key officials of the Agency, including Deputy Directors-General Dr Vivian Abla Kali and Dr Ignatius Kwaku William, as well as technical and administrative staff.
Addressing the Sunyanimanhene, Dr. Asuman announced the launch of Ghana’s first-ever Climate Atlas, describing it as a significant milestone in the country’s climate science and planning efforts.
He explained that the tool is designed to project weather patterns over the next 50 to 100 years, enabling planners, engineers, farmers, and policymakers to make informed long-term decisions.
He further highlighted that the core mandate of the Meteorological Agency is to provide accurate seasonal forecasts to support key sectors such as agriculture and aviation, as well as inform the general public.
In response, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II warmly welcomed the delegation and commended the Agency for its dedication and the growing accuracy of its weather forecasts.
He urged the Agency to intensify public education by disseminating daily weather updates through radio and television, while also leveraging community information centres, particularly in rural areas where many farmers depend on such platforms for timely information.
The Sunyanimanhene noted that the Agency’s work has become increasingly critical in light of noticeable changes in traditional weather patterns.
He therefore encouraged the team to present forecasts in local languages to improve accessibility and understanding among rural farming communities.
He also recommended the use of social media platforms to broaden the reach of weather information, highlighting their growing influence in modern communication.
The visit forms part of ongoing efforts by the Meteorological Agency to deepen collaboration with key stakeholders and enhance climate awareness across the country.
