The Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda and former Deputy Minister of Health, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the government of disregarding growing public dissatisfaction with its governance.

In a Facebook post, the lawmaker contrasted the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) performance in government with that of the NDC, stating that the NPP went “beyond all odds” to fulfil the majority of its campaign promises out of respect for Ghanaians.

According to him, the current administration has failed to heed concerns from citizens, alleging that the NDC has “closed its ears” to the frustrations expressed by the public.

He described the situation as “dead goat syndrome,” suggesting a perceived indifference by the government to criticism and the hardships faced by Ghanaians.

“NPP struggled and went beyond all odds to implement most of its campaign promises because we respected Ghanaians and their sensibilities,” he said.

“The NDC has decided to close its ears to the disappointments of Ghanaians, exhibiting a clear ‘dead goat syndrome,’” Hon. Acquah reiterated.

The former Deputy Minister further questioned whether President John Dramani Mahama’s political future could be influencing the party’s posture, implying that a lack of long-term electoral pressure may be contributing to what he sees as complacency within the administration.

He also took aim at some members of the NDC, accusing them of defending the government despite acknowledging the challenges facing the country.

“Is it because H.E. President Mahama has only one term and doesn’t care about the NDC, 2028, and perhaps its future? I cannot understand, especially when some NDC members are the first to defend the government when they know all is not well,” he noted.

The comments add to ongoing political exchanges between the two major parties, as both the NPP and NDC continue to position themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
