President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to creating jobs and improving livelihoods for Ghanaians, outlining a renewed economic vision during the 2026 May Day celebration in Koforidua.
Addressing a gathering of workers, the President said his administration’s focus is to translate Ghana’s economic stability into real opportunities that benefit citizens across all sectors.
“Our mission is clear we want to turn stability into opportunity,” he declared, emphasizing that job creation remains central to his government’s “Resetting Ghana” agenda.
President Mahama noted that his administration will continue to prioritize decent and sustainable employment for the country’s growing workforce, particularly the youth.
He stressed that investments in value addition and the digital economy will play a critical role in achieving this goal.
“We are committed to ensuring that the Ghanaian worker is not just employed, but empowered,” he stated, highlighting the need to equip workers with the skills and tools required to thrive in a modern economy.
The President also revealed that a new economic policy framework is currently being finalized and will soon be presented by the Ministry of Finance to Cabinet and Parliament for consideration.
According to him, the policy will focus on targeted investments, with government committing at least one percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) annually into selected high-impact sectors of the economy.
He explained that this strategic approach is aimed at driving productivity, boosting economic growth, and ultimately improving the quality of life for Ghanaian families.
“The foundation we are building is for a better life for you and your family,” President Mahama assured workers, drawing applause from the audience.
The May Day celebration, held on May 1 I Koforidua in the Eastern Region, brought together workers from both the formal and informal sectors, as well as labour unions and government officials, to commemorate their contributions to national development.
President Mahama’s message underscored a broader policy direction focused on inclusive growth, economic transformation, and shared prosperity for all Ghanaians.
