The Krontihene of Akyem Asuom, Nana Boadi Amponim Obodade III, has commended President John Dramani Mahama and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) for what he described as their impressive performance in managing the country’s affairs.
According to the traditional leader, Ghanaians must learn not only to criticize leaders but also to praise them when they perform well.
Speaking during a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the 18.5-kilometre Subi-Asuom road in the Kwaebibirem Municipality, Nana Obodade III said the Mahama administration has demonstrated strong leadership, economic stability, and discipline in governance.
The chief, who also serves as Board Chairman of the Ghana Commodity Exchange, stated that the government has done “marvelously well” in stabilizing the Ghana cedi and improving the economy.
He further claimed that President Mahama’s leadership style has instilled discipline and accountability among government appointees.
“Ghanaians must learn to praise in as much as they criticize sharply. President Mahama is doing a good job and we must recognize and celebrate him,” he said.
Nana Obodade III went on to describe President Mahama as one of Ghana’s greatest leaders, comparing him to Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah.
“Ghana has had presidents, heads of state and even prime ministers. But after Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the greatest president Ghana has had is John Dramani Mahama. Even if Nkrumah were alive today, he would clap his hands for the work President Mahama is doing,” he stated.
He praised Mahama’s influence on the international stage, describing him as a strong voice within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union, and the United Nations.
According to him, the president commands global respect and continues to champion the interests of Africans.
Nana Obodade III also likened the late President John Evans Atta Mills to “Asomdweehene” (King of Peace), while describing President Mahama as “Ahobrasehene” (King of Humility).
“There is none more humble than he is, and he is championing Ghana’s cause on the international stage like no other president has done,” he added.
The traditional leader further applauded what he described as the absence of corruption scandals under the current administration.
“Ministers are afraid to touch money that does not belong to them. That is what a good leader does. He does not threaten people, but they respect him and genuinely sacrifice for the development of Ghana,” he said.
He contrasted the current administration with the previous government, alleging that corruption and looting of state funds were rampant under the former leadership.
“It’s almost two years now and we have not heard of any financial scandal. That shows the quality of leadership President Mahama is providing,” he stressed.
Nana Obodade III also used the occasion to thank President Mahama for initiating the construction of the Subi-Asuom road, describing him as a caring and listening leader.
“We prayed for a new government that would care for the people, and we thank God that we now have a caring president ,John Dramani Mahama. If it wasn’t for him, this road would never have been constructed,” he stated.
He added that the people of Asuom had been neglected for far too long and expressed optimism that the road project would significantly improve transportation and economic activities in the area.
The road project, which has been awarded to Propbureuw Construction Firm, is expected to be completed within 18 months.
