The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his 16-year-old biological son at North Legon in Accra.
According to a police press release issued by the Regional Public Affairs Unit on May 6, 2026, the suspect, identified as Eric Mante, was arrested following the incident which reportedly occurred on May 3, 2026.
Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the teenager had gone out to play football with friends when his father allegedly confronted him.
Police said investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly tied the victim to a quad motorbike and sped off with him.
During the incident, the teenager reportedly fell onto the tarred road near Adonai Church and was dragged along the road, resulting in multiple injuries.
The victim’s cries for help reportedly attracted nearby residents who intervened and stopped the suspect from continuing the assault.
The injured teenager was rushed to Legon Hospital for treatment, while the suspect was subsequently arrested by the police.
The police further disclosed that during investigations, the suspect admitted to the act and claimed he acted out of anger over the victim’s behaviour.
He has since been charged and arraigned before court.
In the statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the command condemned all forms of violence against children.
The police also urged parents and guardians to adopt lawful and non-violent methods of disciplining children and encouraged the public to promptly report cases of abuse to the police or relevant authorities.
