The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has confirmed that a police inspector stationed at Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region is under investigation over alleged defilement and incest involving his 14-year-old daughter.
According to a press release issued by the Command, the suspect, identified as Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie, is currently being investigated by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Agona District.
The police said the complaint was lodged on November 4, 2025, by Charlotte Samaa of Koforidua in the Eastern Region on behalf of her daughter, who allegedly accused her biological father of sexually abusing her.
Following the report, the victim was referred to a government health facility for medical examination to support ongoing investigations.
The statement disclosed that on February 20, 2026, the inspector reported himself to the Agona DOVVSU office, where he was arrested and cautioned statement obtained from him.
Police said the suspect denied the allegations during interrogation and was subsequently granted enquiry bail with instructions to report periodically to assist investigations.
The Ashanti North Regional Police Command further announced that Inspector Afriyie has been interdicted to allow for an unhindered investigation into the matter.
“The Ashanti North Regional Police Command wishes to assure the public of its commitment to thorough investigations into the matter and will communicate further developments,” the statement signed by ASP Emmanuel Agbodzi, Acting Public Relations Officer for the Regional Commander, said.
