Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has been elected Chairman of Committee B of the World Health Organization (WHO) during the ongoing World Health Assembly, a development the Ministry of Health says reflects growing international confidence in Ghana’s role in global health governance.
In a congratulatory message, the Ministry described the appointment as a significant achievement not only for the minister but also for Ghana’s contribution to international health policy and decision-making.
According to the Ministry, Committee B is one of the two principal committees of the World Health Assembly and plays a critical role in shaping the administrative and operational direction of the WHO.
The committee is responsible for matters relating to administration, financing, oversight, accountability, staffing, institutional reforms, and collaboration with the United Nations and other intergovernmental organizations.
The Ministry noted that the committee serves as a key platform where important decisions are taken on the management, strengthening, and sustainability of global health systems.
Officials emphasized that Hon. Akandoh’s election to chair the committee demonstrates increasing recognition of Ghana’s active participation in global health discussions and the country’s commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at addressing emerging health challenges.
