The Paramount Chief of Sunyani, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, has released more than 100 acres of land to the Ghana Association of Garages to facilitate the relocation of the Sunyani Magazine to a new site at Timber Nkwanta.
The move forms part of efforts to improve the working environment for mechanics, artisans, and other industry players while promoting safety and industrial development within the municipality.
The official sod-cutting ceremony for the project was held on May 29, 2026, and attracted several dignitaries, including the Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, Seid Mubarak; the Sunyani East Municipal Chief Executive, Vincent Antwi Agyei; national, regional and municipal executives of the Ghana Association of Garages; members of the Sunyani Traditional Council; and officials of the Sunyani Customary Lands Secretariat.
Addressing participants at the event, the Sunyanimanhene explained that the relocation initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at creating a safer and more organized environment for artisans currently operating within the existing magazine enclave.
According to him, many mechanics and other artisans presently work under high-tension electricity transmission lines, a situation he described as a major health and safety concern.
He noted that the new site at Timber Nkwanta would provide a more suitable location for industrial and mechanical activities while reducing the risks associated with the current arrangement.
Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II stressed that the land allocation is intended exclusively for industrial and engineering-related purposes.
He therefore urged members of the association to adhere strictly to the intended use of the land and avoid constructing residential buildings on the property.
He emphasized that the initiative is designed to strengthen the automobile and engineering sector in Sunyani by providing artisans with adequate space and improved infrastructure to enhance productivity and business growth.
The Paramount Chief also called on the Government of Ghana, development partners, corporate organizations, and the general public to support the project to ensure its successful implementation and long-term sustainability.
The relocation of the Sunyani Magazine is expected to pave the way for the modernization of the municipality’s industrial landscape, providing mechanics and other artisans with a more conducive working environment while supporting economic growth and job creation.
With the land now officially released and the sod-cutting ceremony completed, members of the Ghana Association of Garages are expected to begin preparations for the relocation exercise in the coming months, marking a significant milestone in the development and expansion of Sunyani’s industrial sector.
