The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested three persons in connection with an alleged human trafficking and prostitution syndicate operating at Gbane, a mining community in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.
The suspects, identified as Peace Agbede, Favour Sunday Udo and Faith Levy, are accused of trafficking young girls from Nigeria into Ghana and forcing them into prostitution at the Gbane-Tongo mining site.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations revealed that the prime suspect, Peace Agbede, allegedly lured one of the victims from Nigeria under the pretext of helping her pursue a career in Ghana’s movie industry due to her beauty and appearance.
Believing the promise of a better future, the victim reportedly agreed to travel with the suspect to Ghana.
However, upon arrival, the suspect allegedly failed to fulfil the promise and instead transported the victim to the mining enclave at Gbane, where she was reportedly forced into prostitution.
Police investigations indicate that the victim was compelled to pay GHC 400 daily to her alleged madam, Peace Agbede, from proceeds earned through prostitution activities.
The situation reportedly took a more disturbing turn after the victim became pregnant and delivered a baby on June 26, 2026.
Police say suspect Peace Agbede, together with accomplice Favour Sunday Udo, later approached the victim and attempted to convince her to sell the newborn baby to an interested buyer for GHC 20,000.
The development triggered further investigations by the Police, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
A search conducted in the room of suspect Peace Agbede reportedly uncovered six sales record books bearing names such as Esther, Mary, Bright and Silver, believed to be linked to the alleged prostitution operation.
Officers also retrieved 265 unused condoms from the premises.
During the operation, Police rescued four female victims aged between 18 and 20 years who are believed to have been trapped in the trafficking network.
The Upper East Regional Police Command says the suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations and will soon be put before court.
Police have meanwhile reiterated their commitment to fighting human trafficking, child exploitation and other forms of organised crime in the region, while urging the public to volunteer information that could help dismantle similar criminal networks operating within mining communities and other vulnerable areas.
