In a rare and welcome win for the Ghanaian consumer, the Automobile Dealers Union of Ghana (ADUG) has officially announced a price reduction across its member dealerships.

Starting this week, car buyers can expect to see prices slashed by an average of 15%.

The move comes as a direct response to two major economic shifts: the relative stabilization of the Ghana Cedi against the US Dollar and the recent abolition of the COVID-19 levy.

For months, the high cost of transportation and vehicle ownership has been a pain point for many Ghanaians.

ADUG leadership had previously pledged that if the exchange rate stabilized, they would prioritize “fairer pricing” over “excess profiteering.”

”This decisive action reflects the Union’s long-standing promise to Ghanaians,” ADUG stated in their formal announcement.

“Our members have acted in good faith and with a strong sense of national responsibility.”

While the global automotive market has been plagued by supply chain issues and high shipping costs, the local market in Ghana faced additional hurdles.

ADUG highlighted several factors that previously drove prices up:

Exchange rate volatility (specifically the Cedi-to-Dollar rate).

High import duties.
Global shipping and supply chain pressures.

With the recent “improvement and relative consistency” in the exchange rate environment, the Union felt the time was right to review prices downward.

The price adjustment isn’t limited to just one category.

The 15% average reduction applies to a wide range of inventory, ensuring there is something for every budget.

ADUG concluded their announcement by thanking the public for their “patience, trust, and confidence” during the period of high volatility.

By adjusting prices now, the Union aims to reaffirm its role as a partner in the national economy rather than just a group of traders.
