The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), in collaboration with KGL Group and the KGL Foundation, has launched a major healthcare infrastructure project aimed at transforming diagnostic services at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge).
The initiative will deliver a modern diagnostic centre equipped with advanced medical imaging technologies, significantly improving access to quality diagnostic care for patients across the country.
The project forms part of efforts by the Ghana Medical Trust Fund to strengthen healthcare delivery through strategic partnerships with the private sector.
Earlier this year, the Fund appealed to Corporate Ghana to support the retooling of Ridge Hospital with modern diagnostic equipment to enhance patient care.
Responding to that appeal, KGL Group, through its corporate social responsibility arm, the KGL Foundation, pledged not only to provide equipment but also to finance the construction of a dedicated diagnostic facility, marking one of the largest private sector contributions to Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure in recent years.
The implementation phase officially commenced after the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, and the Chief Executive Officer of KGL Group, Alex Apau Dadey, led officials from both organisations on a site inspection at Ridge Hospital on Thursday July 23.
When completed, the facility will bring together several advanced diagnostic technologies under one roof, including a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner, Computed Tomography (CT) scanner, mammography unit, X-ray machine and fluoroscopy equipment.
The integrated centre is expected to improve the hospital’s capacity to diagnose a wide range of complex medical conditions more efficiently while providing faster and more accurate results for patients.
Health experts believe the facility will also ease the pressure on existing diagnostic services by reducing waiting times and limiting the need for patients to seek advanced imaging services at other hospitals or private facilities.
Officials of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund described the partnership as a practical demonstration of the impact that collaboration between government institutions and the private sector can have on improving healthcare delivery.
The Fund commended KGL Group for what it described as an exceptional commitment to supporting Ghana’s health sector, noting that the company’s contribution exceeded the original request, which focused primarily on acquiring diagnostic equipment.
According to the Trust Fund, the project reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare while encouraging greater private sector participation in strengthening the country’s health system.
Once operational, the diagnostic centre is expected to serve as a key referral facility for advanced medical imaging, supporting healthcare professionals with timely and accurate diagnoses and ultimately improving patient outcomes.
The project is also expected to contribute to the broader national objective of modernising healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that more Ghanaians have access to world-class diagnostic services without having to travel long distances or seek treatment abroad.
