Chief Justice His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has called on Ghanaians to embrace integrity as a core national value, stressing that ethical conduct is essential to strengthening justice, public confidence and the country’s overall development.
He made the remarks on Monday, July 27, 2026, during the official launch of the National Integrity Awards Scheme at Parliament House.
The event was held under the theme, “Promoting Integrity, Celebrating Ethical Leadership and Inspiring National Development.”
Addressing participants, the Chief Justice described integrity as the cornerstone of a just and prosperous society, urging citizens to remain committed to honesty, accountability and ethical behaviour in both their public and private lives.
According to Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, integrity goes beyond words and requires individuals to make the right decisions even when doing so comes with personal sacrifice.
“Integrity is about choosing to do the right thing even when it comes at a personal cost,” he stated, adding that while individuals may bear the consequences of acting with integrity, the entire nation suffers when corruption is allowed to flourish.
He warned that corruption erodes public trust in institutions, weakens governance and undermines national progress, emphasizing that safeguarding integrity is a collective responsibility.
The Chief Justice further underscored the importance of integrity within the Judiciary, noting that public confidence in the justice delivery system depends largely on the ethical conduct of judges, court officials and all stakeholders in the administration of justice.
He therefore urged Ghanaians from all walks of life to uphold the principles of honesty, transparency and accountability in their daily activities.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie welcomed the introduction of the National Integrity Awards Scheme, describing it as a timely initiative that would recognize and reward individuals and institutions demonstrating exemplary ethical leadership.
He expressed confidence that the awards would inspire more people to uphold integrity and serve as role models for future generations.
The Chief Justice also reaffirmed the Judiciary’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting accountability, strengthening ethical leadership and enhancing public trust in Ghana’s democratic institutions.
The National Integrity Awards Scheme seeks to promote ethical values by recognizing individuals and organizations that demonstrate exceptional integrity, accountability and commitment to national development, while encouraging a culture of transparency across both the public and private sectors.
