The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice has announced plans to appeal the Court of Appeal’s decision to acquit and discharge former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Attionu Tamakloe, in a high-profile corruption case.

In a press release issued on Thursday, July 30, 2026, the Attorney-General’s Office said it had taken note of the appellate court’s ruling, which overturned Tamakloe’s conviction on all charges.

Sedina Tamakloe, who served as MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, had been prosecuted on a total of 78 criminal counts.

The charges included conspiracy to steal, stealing, conspiracy to cause financial loss to the state, causing financial loss to the state, causing loss to public property, improper payment of public funds, unauthorized commitments resulting in financial obligations to the government, money laundering, and violations of the Public Procurement Act.

The former MASLOC boss was tried in absentia by the High Court (Financial Division 2), presided over by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare-Botwe, who sat as an additional High Court judge.

Following the trial, she was convicted and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.

The Attorney-General’s Office noted that during the appeal proceedings, the Republic opposed Tamakloe’s appeal by filing written legal submissions, arguing that the appeal lacked merit and should be dismissed.

However, the Court of Appeal ruled in favour of the former MASLOC CEO, acquitting and discharging her of all charges.

Reacting to the judgment, the Attorney-General disclosed that he has directed the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to immediately file a notice of appeal before the Supreme Court.

According to the statement, the DPP has also been instructed to file an application for a stay of execution of the Court of Appeal’s judgment pending the final determination of the appeal by the Supreme Court.

The Attorney-General expressed confidence in the government’s case, stressing that the decision of the Court of Appeal would be challenged through the appropriate legal processes.

“The Attorney-General remains committed to the due process of law and is confident that the appeal before the Supreme Court will succeed,” the statement maintained.

The latest development means the legal battle over the former MASLOC CEO’s prosecution is expected to continue at the Supreme Court, where the state’s appeal will seek to overturn the Court of Appeal’s decision.
