The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Adentan Municipal Assembly, Ms. Ellah Esinam Nongo, has presented food items and an undisclosed amount of cash to traditional authorities within the municipality in support of this year’s Homowo Festival celebrations.
The donation forms part of the Assembly’s efforts to strengthen its relationship with traditional leaders while supporting the successful observance of the annual Ga festival, which celebrates a historic victory over famine and promotes unity, peace and cultural heritage.
The items presented included 100 bags of maize, 50 gallons of palm oil, cartons of assorted beverages, 20 schnapps, 240 packs of bottle water in addition to an undisclosed cash contribution to assist the traditional areas with their festival activities.
Speaking during a brief presentation ceremony, Ms. Nongo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural traditions of the Ga people, stressing that traditional institutions remain important partners in local governance and community development.
She noted that the Homowo Festival serves not only as a celebration of culture and heritage but also as an opportunity to strengthen unity among residents and promote peaceful coexistence across the municipality.
The MCE urged residents to observe the festivities in an atmosphere of peace, tolerance and mutual respect, while encouraging communities to continue supporting initiatives aimed at improving development in the municipality.
She further assured the traditional authorities of the Assembly’s readiness to collaborate with them on programmes that would improve the welfare of residents and accelerate development across Adentan.
Receiving the items on behalf of the various traditional areas, the Chief of Fafraha, Nii Kommey Akpor I, expressed gratitude to the Adentan Municipal Assembly and the MCE for the timely gesture.
He described the donation as a demonstration of the Assembly’s respect for traditional authority and its commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of the Ga people.
Nii Kommey Akpor I also appealed for sustained collaboration between the Assembly and the traditional councils, emphasizing that effective cooperation between local government and traditional leaders is essential for achieving lasting development.
He further called for peaceful coexistence among all stakeholders before, during and after the Homowo Festival, expressing confidence that unity between the Assembly and the traditional authorities would contribute to the continued growth and stability of the municipality.
The Homowo Festival is one of the most significant cultural celebrations of the Ga people, marked by traditional rites, family reunions, thanksgiving and prayers for peace, prosperity and abundant harvests.
The festival also serves as a platform to promote unity and reinforce the cultural identity of Ga communities across the Greater Accra Region.
