The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested 14 suspects over their alleged involvement in the cultivation and distribution of narcotic drugs at Daliga in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region.

The suspects were apprehended on Sunday, August 16, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation conducted by personnel from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) and the newly established Black Cobra Team.

The operation, according to the Police, followed intelligence gathered on suspected narcotic drug cultivation and distribution activities in the area.

Those arrested have been identified as Alex Nyaaba, Charles Keleg Dombil, Zimi Pandam, Jennifer Ziini, Tobirr Naab, Yinteng James, Tosil Wandabil, Sandanane Peehim, Borimi Nohoo, Curim Teng, Curim Kugri, Nohou Dagobila and Abane Zangbeog.

During a search conducted as part of the operation, the Police reportedly discovered a large quantity of suspected narcotic drugs concealed in sacks containing millet and maize.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspected Indian hemp was being cultivated alongside food crops, particularly millet and maize, allegedly as a means of concealing the farms and making it difficult for law enforcement authorities to detect the cultivation activities.

The Police further suspect that the arrested persons form part of a network involved in the supply and distribution of narcotic drugs within the Upper East Region.

According to preliminary findings, the suspects are believed to be major suppliers to several drug peddlers operating in different parts of the region.

The arrests form part of efforts by the Upper East Regional Police Command to intensify the fight against the cultivation, trafficking and distribution of narcotic drugs, particularly through intelligence-led operations targeting suspected sources and supply networks.

The 14 suspects remain in Police custody as investigations continue into their alleged activities.

The Police said the suspects will subsequently be put before the court to face the full rigours of the law.

The Command has also reiterated its commitment to working with communities and other stakeholders to identify and disrupt activities linked to the cultivation and distribution of illicit drugs in the region.
