In a landmark moment for Ghanaian diplomacy, President John Dramani Mahama has officially commissioned a state-of-the-art Chancery for Ghana’s Embassy in Ethiopia.

The inauguration of the edifice reinforces Ghana’s standing as a pivotal player in African continental politics and multilateralism.

Announcing the milestone on social media, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, described the new building as more than just an architectural feat, but a symbol of Ghana’s enduring commitment to the African Union (AU) and its deepened bilateral ties with the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

The commissioning comes at a strategic time for Ghana’s foreign policy.

According to Hon. Ablakwa, this “magnificent edifice” signals President Mahama’s readiness and resolve as he prepares to assume the Chairmanship of the African Union next year.

”This is an affirmation of Ghana’s firm belief in multilateralism and our demonstrable commitment to the AU vision,” the Minister stated.

The project’s completion tells a story of perseverance and fiscal dedication, spanning ten years of development.

The North Tongu legislator explained that the construction commenced but faced significant delays due to global and domestic economic challenges.

He was quick to add that the current administration prioritized the project, clearing all outstanding Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs) last year to ensure the building’s completion.

The ceremony was graced by the Ethiopian Foreign Minister, Dr. Gedion Timothewos, who attended as a special guest, underscoring the “cherished bilateral relations” between the two nations.

Hon. Ablakwa extended profound appreciation to the diplomatic community and the technical teams behind the project, including:
The staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ghana Embassy in Addis Ababa.
The Ethiopian contractors and the Ghanaian consultancy firm.
