The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has officially declared a nationwide strike, set to begin on Monday, March 9, 2026.
The announcement was made by Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo during a press conference today.
The industrial action comes as a direct response to the government’s continued failure to implement a new salary structure a negotiation process that has been stalled for seven years.
Addressing the media, Mr. Bampoe Addo expressed the growing frustration of civil servants who have been waiting for the promised restructuring since 2019.

Despite numerous meetings, memorandums of understanding, and government assurances over the years, the Executive Secretary noted that the promised adjustments have yet to reflect in the pockets of workers.
”We have been more than patient. This process started in 2019, and we are now in 2026,” Bampoe Addo stated.
“The cost of living has skyrocketed, yet our salary structure remains anchored in the past. We have no choice but to withdraw our services.”
The strike is expected to bring administrative functions to a halt across the country.
The Association has made it clear that the only way to avert the strike is for the government to move beyond verbal promises and provide a concrete, immediate implementation of the agreed-upon salary scales.
”This is not a threat; it is a declaration,” the Executive Secretary emphasized.
“Effective March 9, all our members are instructed to stay home until further notice.”
If the strike proceeds, citizens seeking government permits, birth certificates, business registrations, and other local government services will face significant disruptions.
