Residents of Nuba in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region have benefited from an extended free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewal exercise.
The exercise, organised by the Assembly Member for the Nuba Electoral Area, Emmanuel Kwasie Amihere, popularly known as Ghanaman, with support from the Member of Parliament for Jomoro and Deputy Minister of Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, was aimed at helping more residents gain access to healthcare.
Initially scheduled for one day, the exercise is extended to two days during its second phase to enable more residents to register for the NHIS, renew their memberships and replace lost or damaged NHIS cards.
The first phase recorded significant participation, with 75 people registering for the first time, 80 renewing their NHIS memberships and 15 replacing their cards, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 170.
During the second phase, 133 residents registered for the NHIS for the first time, while 70 renewed their memberships and 50 others replaced their cards.
The Assembly Member for the Nuba Electoral Area, Emmanuel Kwasie Amihere, expressed appreciation to the Jomoro MP and Deputy Minister of Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, as well as the Municipal Chief Executive, Benedict Boadi, for their continued support for the people of Nuba.
According to him, the support from the two leaders contributed to the extension of the exercise and created an opportunity for more residents to benefit.
Mr. Amihere said the initiative had brought relief to residents, particularly those who might otherwise have faced difficulties accessing NHIS registration and renewal services.
He commended Ms. Affo-Toffey and Mr. Boadi for their commitment to the welfare of the people of Nuba and expressed hope that similar interventions would continue to support residents in the community.
He also urged beneficiaries to make good use of their NHIS memberships by seeking timely healthcare whenever necessary.
The Assembly Member reiterated his commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to bring more development-oriented initiatives to the Nuba Electoral Area.
