The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has clarified the status of its representation on the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), stating that Governor Dr Johnson Asiama ceased to be a member of the board on May 11, 2026.
The central bank said Dr Asiama has not participated in any GoldBod Board meetings or activities since that date.
The clarification follows recent public commentary concerning the Governor’s continued representation of the Bank of Ghana on the GoldBod Board.
In a statement issued by its Communications Department on Monday, September 28, the BoG said its representation on the GoldBod Board is provided for under Section 4 of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
The law provides for the Bank of Ghana to be represented on the GoldBod Board by the Governor or an official of the central bank not below the rank of Director.
Following Dr Asiama’s exit from the board, the Bank said it nominated its Second Deputy Governor, Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu, as its representative.
According to the BoG, Mrs Asante-Asiedu has since assumed the role and currently represents the central bank on the GoldBod Board, thereby fulfilling the statutory requirement for its representation.
“The Bank wishes to clarify as follows: Dr. Johnson Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, ceased to serve as a member of the GoldBod Board effective 11 May 2026,” the statement said.
“Since that date, the Governor has not participated in any meetings or activities of the GoldBod Board.”
The central bank said the clarification was intended to address questions surrounding the Governor’s status on the GoldBod Board and to provide clarity on the official representing the Bank.
The BoG also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of governance and transparency in the discharge of its mandate.
It said it would continue to ensure the avoidance of any actual or perceived conflict of interest in the performance of its responsibilities.
The Bank of Ghana issued the clarification on September 28, 2026.
