Four people have died and another person sustained injuries in a fatal road crash involving a Toyota Voxy and a MAN Diesel trailer at Anyinasin Junction on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
The crash occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 28, 2026, prompting an emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
According to the GNFS, the Bunso Fire Station received a distress call at 5:21 a.m. and dispatched a seven-member crew to the scene.
The firefighters arrived at about 5:35 a.m. and immediately began rescue operations, including extricating victims who were trapped in the wreckage.
The team also secured the crash scene and assisted in maintaining the free flow of traffic along the busy Accra-Kumasi Highway.
The GNFS reported that the Toyota Voxy, with registration number GR 9430-26, was completely damaged in the collision.
The MAN Diesel trailer, with registration number GS 4064-26, also sustained damage, particularly to its front compartment.
One male victim was successfully rescued from the wreckage and subsequently conveyed to the Kibi Government Hospital for medical attention.
However, four other occupants were pronounced dead. The deceased comprised three males and one female.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain unclear, as the exact cause of the crash is yet to be established.
The GNFS said the cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
After the rescue and recovery operations, the scene was handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and the necessary procedures.
The incident adds to concerns over road safety along major highways, where crashes involving heavy-duty vehicles and passenger vehicles can have fatal consequences.
