The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, says he has filed a writ of summons against the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, and broadcaster Abubakar Alhassan, popularly known as Blakk Rasta, over statements he considers false and defamatory.

In an official statement issued on Monday, September 28, 2026, Mr Awuah said the writ was filed against the two individuals for allegedly making and publishing false and defamatory statements concerning him.

The Manhyia South legislator did not provide details of the specific statements in the statement announcing the legal action, nor did he disclose the reliefs being sought from the court.

Mr Awuah said he had deliberately chosen to pursue the matter through the civil courts, arguing that this approach is consistent with democratic accountability and the constitutional avenues available to individuals who believe their reputations have been damaged.

“Unlike the Government, I have chosen the path of democratic accountability by seeking redress through the civil courts, rather than pursuing criminal prosecution for the publication of what I consider to be false information,” he stated.

His decision to commence civil proceedings comes amid a wider dispute involving his efforts to secure what he describes as justice for a mother of three minor children who he says was allegedly taken into custody by state security agents.

According to the MP, the woman was allegedly arrested in the late hours of Saturday and remains in police custody.

Mr Awuah accused the government of attempting to intimidate and silence him over his involvement in the matter but said such efforts had not succeeded.

“That said, I wish to state unequivocally that the attempt by the Government to intimidate and silence me in my quest to fight for the rights of a poor mother of three (3) minor children, who was allegedly taken into custody by state security agents in the late hours of Saturday and remains in police custody, has failed,” he said.

The MP maintained that he would continue to pursue the matter through what he described as lawful and constitutional means.

He said his actions were intended to protect the rights of the woman and seek justice for her and her children.

“I remain committed to pursuing this matter through lawful and constitutional means and will not be deterred from seeking justice for her and her children,” Mr Awuah added.

The writ represents a civil legal route through which the MP is seeking redress over the statements attributed to Mr Baidoo and Blakk Rasta.

The allegations contained in Mr Awuah’s statement have not, by themselves, established that the statements complained of are defamatory, and the filing of a writ does not amount to a judicial determination of liability. The defendants will have the opportunity to respond to the claims through the court process.

The latest development adds another dimension to an ongoing controversy surrounding the Manhyia South MP, who has recently been involved in a dispute concerning his interactions with state institutions and his advocacy on behalf of individuals involved in legal matters.

For now, Mr Awuah says he intends to allow the civil courts to determine the issues arising from the alleged defamatory publications while continuing his efforts concerning the woman he says remains in police custody.
