The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South in the Ashanti Region, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has reported himself to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following a warrant issued for his arrest.
The MP reported to the anti-graft agency on Thursday, October 1, 2026, accompanied by several members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament.
The development follows an Accra High Court order on September 30 authorising EOCO to arrest the lawmaker as part of an ongoing investigation involving SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited.
According to EOCO, the investigation concerns alleged unauthorised financial transactions, potential financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds and money laundering.
EOCO told the court that it had exhausted reasonable efforts to secure the MP’s voluntary attendance for questioning after he allegedly failed to honour two invitations issued in February 2026.
The court also authorised EOCO to search for and seize documents considered relevant to the investigation, citing concerns that evidence could be concealed, altered or destroyed.
The warrant directed EOCO to execute the arrest through the Speaker of Parliament, following an earlier unsuccessful attempt to apprehend the MP outside the Accra High Court on September 23.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, who is a lawyer, has disputed aspects of EOCO’s account. He said the investigation relates to work previously undertaken by his former law firm for SIC Life Savings & Loans and maintained that representatives of the firm had cooperated with investigators and provided statements.
He also denied receiving the earlier invitations and said the individuals who attempted to detain him outside the court on September 23 did not properly identify themselves or produce a valid arrest warrant, prompting him to leave the scene over concerns for his safety.
His decision to report himself to EOCO is expected to allow investigators to proceed with their inquiries in accordance with due process.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against the MP have not been determined by a court.
