The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Phylis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, has visited the family of 28-year-old Monica Mawuse Bosso, who died under circumstances being investigated as an alleged gang rape and staged suicide.

The MP was accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive, Seth Sewornu Banini, and personnel from the Central East Police Command during the visit to the bereaved family.

The visit was to express condolences to the family and offer support following the disturbing death of the young woman.

Monica Mawuse Bosso was reportedly found dead on the family compound, kneeling beneath a mango tree with a rope around her neck.

The rope was said to have been tied to a frail, low-hanging branch of the tree.

The circumstances surrounding the discovery initially suggested a possible suicide, but preliminary police investigations have raised suspicions that the scene may have been staged.

According to preliminary findings attributed to the Central East Regional Police Command, Bosso may have been sexually assaulted by multiple persons before her death, after which her body was allegedly transported to the family compound and positioned to create the appearance of a suicide by hanging.

The circumstances remain under investigation, and the allegations have not yet been established in court.

During her visit, Madam Okunnor expressed her condolences to the bereaved family and acknowledged the trauma associated with losing a loved one under such disturbing circumstances.

She said the family is already dealing with the pain of losing a relative and should not have to endure the additional anguish arising from the circumstances surrounding Bosso’s death.

The MP urged the family to remain confident in the Ghana Police Service as investigations continue.

She appealed to the police to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and ensure that anyone found to have been responsible is brought to justice.

Her call comes amid growing concerns within the community over the circumstances in which the 28-year-old woman died.

The grandfather of the deceased, David Akotse, said the family remained in shock and is struggling to understand why anyone would subject their relative to such treatment.

He said the family had been left devastated by the circumstances surrounding Bosso’s death and is waiting for answers from investigators.

According to him, the family’s immediate concern is for the police to intensify their investigations and identify and arrest those responsible.

Mr Akotse said the family is counting on the security services to establish exactly what happened to Bosso and ensure that the matter does not remain unresolved.

The visit by the MP, MCE and police personnel comes as investigators continue efforts to piece together the events leading to Bosso’s death.

Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged sexual assault, her death and the subsequent discovery of her body at the family compound.

The findings of the ongoing investigation will be crucial in determining what happened and whether the death was deliberately made to appear as a suicide.

For now, the family is appealing for justice while investigators work to establish the facts surrounding the death of the 28-year-old.
