Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Essikado-Ketan, Charles Cromwell Nanabanyin Onuawonto Bissue, has called on his supporters and party members to comply with the party’s directive suspending campaign activities by prospective parliamentary aspirants.

In a press statement issued on Monday, October 12, 2026, Mr Bissue acknowledged a directive from the NPP headquarters instructing all prospective parliamentary aspirants and their supporters to cease campaigning.

He said he would fully comply with the directive, stressing that his decision was consistent with his longstanding commitment to the party’s rules and internal electoral processes.

Mr Bissue disclosed that several party members in the Essikado-Ketan constituency had encouraged him to begin his campaign but said he had consistently maintained that he would wait until the party’s internal elections are concluded.

“As a long-standing member of the Party who has held various positions and helped shape its rules, I must lead by example and fully comply,” he stated.

As part of his commitment to the directive, Mr Bissue appealed to his supporters and other party members to refrain from publishing or circulating materials promoting his parliamentary ambition until the party gives clearance for campaign activities to resume.

He emphasised that the suspension must be respected by both aspirants and their supporters to ensure discipline within the party.

“I entreat all my supporters and Party Members not to post or circulate any material promoting me. We shall resume only when the Party permits,” he said.

His appeal comes as the NPP seeks to regulate activities surrounding its internal electoral processes, with prospective parliamentary aspirants expected to observe the party’s directives.

Mr Bissue’s statement signals his intention to abide by the party’s instructions while awaiting further guidance on when campaigning may resume.

Beyond the suspension of campaign activities, the former parliamentary candidate expressed concern about what he described as insults and character attacks among party members on WhatsApp platforms.

He cautioned that such conduct could undermine relationships within the party and weaken the unity needed to prepare for the 2028 general elections.

According to him, internal political competition should be driven by ideas, policies and the ability of aspirants to contribute to the party’s development rather than personal attacks against opponents.

“I do not believe in the politics of insults; it does not augur well for our Party. I urge all my supporters to desist immediately. Let us compete on ideas, not insults,” he stated.

Mr Bissue’s comments highlight concerns about the tone of internal political contests, particularly the use of social media and messaging platforms to attack fellow party members.

He urged his supporters to exercise restraint and avoid engaging in exchanges that could deepen divisions among party members.

Mr Bissue further reminded party members that disagreements arising from internal contests should not permanently damage relationships within the NPP.

He argued that although members may find themselves competing against one another during internal elections, they remain part of the same political organisation and must preserve their common interests.

“We may be opponents for a season, but we remain one family,” he said.

He maintained that discipline and unity would be crucial to the party’s preparations for the 2028 general elections, urging members to prioritise the NPP’s collective interests over individual ambitions.

“Only through discipline and unity can we win in 2028,” he added.

Mr Bissue, who previously served as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Essikado-Ketan, reiterated his commitment to respecting the party’s established procedures and urged his supporters to do the same.

His statement combines an appeal for compliance with the campaign suspension and a broader call for responsible political engagement among party members.

He maintained that prospective aspirants must respect the party’s decisions and ensure that their supporters do not undertake activities that contravene official directives.
