The Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), in collaboration with the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Secretariat (24H+), has invited qualified consulting firms and consortia to express interest in undertaking a pre-feasibility study into inland water transport along the Volta Lake.
The proposed study is expected to explore opportunities to improve cargo transportation, strengthen logistics infrastructure and unlock investment potential along the Mpakadan-Asikuma-Buipe-Yapei corridor.
The initiative forms part of efforts to assess the potential of inland water transport to support the movement of goods and improve logistics connectivity along the Volta Lake.
According to a call for expressions of interest issued by the two institutions, qualified consulting firms and consortia are being invited to submit their interest in undertaking the pre-feasibility study.
The submission deadline is Monday, October 19, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
The pre-feasibility study will examine opportunities to enhance cargo transportation along the designated corridor, with a broader focus on strengthening the logistics infrastructure that supports the movement of goods.
It will also explore the investment potential associated with inland water transport along the Volta Lake, providing an opportunity to assess how the waterway could contribute to the country’s transport and logistics network.
The Mpakadan-Asikuma-Buipe-Yapei corridor is the geographical focus of the proposed assessment.
However, the notice does not provide further details on the study’s methodology, estimated cost, implementation timeline or specific infrastructure interventions to be considered.
The findings of the pre-feasibility study are expected to help inform further consideration of the opportunities and investment potential associated with inland water transport along the corridor.
Interested consulting firms and consortia are required to submit their expressions of interest to the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund.

Submissions must be delivered to the GIIF office on the fourth floor of Tower 1 at the Ministry of Finance in Kanda, Accra.
The call is an initial step towards assessing the feasibility of improving inland water transport along the Volta Lake corridor, with the potential to strengthen cargo movement, improve logistics infrastructure and attract investment.
