Six students from Aggrey Memorial Senior High School are currently in police custody following a vicious assault on a final-year Adisadel College student that has left him with potentially life-altering injuries.
The victim, identified as Rexford Owusu-Ansah, was reportedly targeted simply because of the school he attends.
The Ambush at Pedu Junction
According to a statement released by the Central Regional Police Command, the incident occurred around 3:30 pm as the inter-colleges sports festival concluded.
Owusu-Ansah was walking back to campus with two friends when they were intercepted at Pedu Junction by a group of Aggrey Memorial students.
The suspects allegedly confronted the trio, asking for confirmation of their enrollment at Adisadel College.
Upon hearing the answer, the group launched an immediate attack.
While his two companions managed to flee the scene, Owusu-Ansah was overtaken, kicked to the ground and beaten “mercilessly.”
The attackers made off with his iPhone 17 Pro Max, approximately GH¢ 1,400 in cash, and even his shoes.
After being rushed to the stadium clinic and subsequently referred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital, Owusu-Ansah was discharged on Sunday.
However, the medical report paints a grim picture.
”The police medical form showed a fractured nerve bone in his right eye.
He cannot open it, and the eyeball seems to be falling out,” stated ASP Pathir Bentum of the Public Affairs Unit.
The School Authorities of Aggrey Memorial acted swiftly on the evening of the attack, handing over the six juvenile offenders to the Kotokuraba Police Station at approximately 7:30 pm.
The Central Regional Police Command has issued a strong condemnation of the violence, emphasizing that “juvenile” status will not exempt the suspects from accountability.
The police have assured the public that due process will be followed to ensure justice for Owusu-Ansah.
This incident has sparked renewed conversations regarding the intensity of school rivalries in Cape Coast and the need for stricter security during inter-school competitions.
