The Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives is demanding answers after an alleged millions in salary arrears reportedly vanished from the national payroll system overnight.
What was supposed to be a routine validation process for February 2026 has instead turned into a digital disappearing act.
For months, affected healthcare workers saw their unpaid wages reflected on their payment vouchers, a digital promise of money owed.
As of this month(February), those records have been wiped clean, yet their bank accounts remains empty.
According to the Coalition, the disappearance of these records is not a glitch but a “deeply dishonest” manipulation of the system.
While the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) was quick to issue a denial, frontline administrators are telling a different story.
The nurses report that while the CAGD denies any wrongdoing, local Payroll Validators and HR Officers at various health facilities have confirmed the arrears are no longer on the vouchers.
If the money wasn’t paid, and the debt is no longer listed, where did the liability go, they questioned.
Many of these nurses have worked for years under the promise of back-pay, only to see their financial security deleted with a keystroke.
”We will not be silenced”
Stephen Kwadwo Takyiah, Convener of the Coalition, expressed the frustrations of thousands of healthcare workers who feel betrayed by the very system they serve.
”Who authorized the removal of our legitimately earned arrears? Nurses and midwives who have worked tirelessly for this country cannot and will not accept a situation where their hard-earned income is quietly wiped away from official records.”
The Coalition is now calling for an immediate government investigation to restore the data and, more importantly, release the funds.
The Coalition has hinted at further “action” if the government fails to address this “anomaly” swiftly.
The Coalition is demanding an explanation of the legal or administrative basis for removing the arrears, immediate reinstatement of all cleared arrears onto the payment vouchers and a clear timeline for the actual disbursement of funds.
