The Kwahu Afram Plains North Police Command has arrested a suspect, identified as Kyere (popularly known as Kofi Junior), following a violent robbery and attempted murder of a mobile money (MoMo) vendor.
The victim, 26-year-old Opoku Dominic, was attacked in his residence at Amankwa at approximately 11:00 PM on Wednesday February 25.
Dominic had reportedly closed his business for the day and was sleeping when the suspect broke in.
The assailant allegedly butchered the victim, leaving him with deep lacerations to his head and shoulders.
Sources indicate the attacker fled the scene believing Dominic was dead after the victim lost consciousness from the severity of the wounds.
Investigations reveal that Dominic was not the suspect’s first target that night, earlier, Kofi Junior reportedly attempted to rob a storekeeper named Hamzah.
According to Hamzah’s father, the suspect was initially wearing a mask, jowever, when Hamzah threatened to defend himself with a stone, the suspect removed the mask and fled the scene.
Unfazed by this initial failure, Kofi Junior then proceeded to the home of Opoku Dominic.
The suspect allegedly made off with GH₵17,000 following the assault on Dominic.
However, his freedom was shortDomini following a tip-off, the Donkorkrom Police Patrol team staged a swift intervention, apprehending the suspect at Appiabra around 2:00 AM.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
The victim, Opoku Dominic, was rushed to the Presbyterian Hospital in Donkorkrom.
Although he remains in critical condition, he was able to provide a brief account of the ordeal to the media from his hospital bed.
