The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Achiase in the Eastern Region, Hon. Samuel Owusu Brako, has announced plans to secure additional educational infrastructure for schools across the district following the commissioning of new boys’ and girls’ dormitory blocks at Achiase Senior High School.
The two dormitory blocks were commissioned on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, as part of efforts to improve accommodation and learning conditions for students.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Owusu Brako said the completion of the facilities marks the fulfilment of a long-standing need, particularly as students had faced accommodation challenges and overcrowding over the years.
“Today is not just a commissioning; today is a dream come true,” he said.
According to the DCE, the newly commissioned dormitories are fully furnished and capable of accommodating hundreds of students.
He said the facilities would help reduce overcrowding, improve students’ welfare and safety, and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
Mr. Owusu Brako expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for his commitment to education and development.
He also paid tribute to former NDC figures, particularly Dr. Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi and Nana Baffour Mensah-Takyi, (of blessed memory) , whom he credited with initiating the infrastructure project.
He revealed plans by the assembly to name the facilities to these gallant people.
He said the completion of the project demonstrates the importance of continuity in development and ensuring that projects initiated by previous administrations are completed for the benefit of communities.
The DCE disclosed that efforts are underway to secure additional infrastructure for Achiase Senior High School.
He said he had recently engaged the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and requested additional classroom and dormitory blocks for the school.
Similar requests, he said, had been made for Priory Senior High School, including additional dormitory and classroom blocks as well as a school bus.
Mr. Owusu Brako said the initiatives forms part of the district administration’s broader efforts to address infrastructure gaps and improve access to quality education.
He further revealed that the district had secured 21 GETFund projects for basic schools across Achiase.
The projects include teachers’ accommodation, kindergarten (KG) blocks, junior high school (JHS) blocks and six-unit classroom blocks in selected communities.
He said the projects would improve teaching and learning conditions and provide essential facilities for teachers and pupils.
Mr. Owusu Brako urged students to take good care of the newly commissioned dormitories and protect the facilities from damage.
He also appealed to the school’s management and staff to maintain a strong maintenance culture to ensure the facilities remain in good condition.
“To our beloved students, this edifice is for you. Take good care of it,” he said.
The DCE pledged to continue working with the government and relevant institutions to attract more development projects to the district.
He described the commissioning of the dormitories as “just the beginning” and expressed confidence that further investments in education would improve academic outcomes and make schools in the district more competitive.
He reiterated the district administration’s commitment to working with the Mahama administration to advance development in Achiase.
“This is just the beginning; more developmental projects are yet to come,” he said.
