The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested eight suspected online fraudsters believed to be Nigerian nationals at a hideout in Kotokuom in the Sunyani East Municipality.

The suspects were arrested on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m. by three police officers following a tip-off from an informant.

According to reports, the police received information after a person allegedly trapped inside the building was heard calling for help through a window.

Acting on the information, the officers proceeded to the fenced, self-contained building, where they arrested the eight suspects and rescued the individual who had reportedly called for assistance.

Information available indicates that one of the suspects allegedly bit a police officer on the hand during the operation, leaving the officer injured.

The police also retrieved several electronic devices from the premises, including approximately 19 mobile phones, tablets, laptops, a router, internet receivers and other equipment suspected to have been used in the alleged activities.

However, details of the suspects’ specific operations and the circumstances surrounding the alleged victim’s confinement have not yet been fully established.

Residents of Kotokuom have expressed concern over the presence and activities of the suspected fraudsters in their community.

Speaking to Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Sunyani-based Ark FM on Monday, October 5, the residents said they had little knowledge of what the occupants of the building did.

They disclosed that one of the suspects was occasionally seen leaving the premises to purchase food and other necessities for the group.

The residents said the arrests had raised questions about how the group operated within the neighbourhood without attracting much attention.

Following the arrests, some residents called on the authorities to ensure that the suspects face the appropriate legal processes if investigations establish their involvement in criminal activities.

They also suggested that the relevant authorities consider repatriation in accordance with the law where applicable.

The residents further urged landlords to conduct proper background checks and make adequate enquiries about prospective tenants before renting out their properties.

They believe such precautionary measures could help prevent residential buildings from being used as hideouts for criminal activities.

The suspects’ arrest is expected to pave the way for further investigations into their alleged activities and the possible involvement of other individuals.

The suspects remain alleged offenders, and their guilt can only be established through the due process of law.
