The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has granted the Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, enquiry bail after he honoured an invitation from investigators probing an alleged criminal conspiracy linked to a revised financial loss of approximately GH¢27 million at SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited.
According to a news release issued by EOCO on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Mr Darko reported to the Office at exactly 12 noon to assist investigators with information relevant to the ongoing investigation.
The Office described the Suame MP as respectful and cooperative, adding that he was fully responsive throughout the investigative process.
EOCO said its decision to grant him enquiry bail was based on the circumstances of the case, the applicable law and his level of cooperation with investigators.
The development forms part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged criminal conspiracy that has resulted in a revised estimate of the financial loss suffered by SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited.
EOCO also disclosed that Amma Frimpomaa Dwumah, the former Managing Director of SIC Life Savings and Loans, had honoured an invitation from the Office and was cooperating with investigators.
The statement did not provide further details about the specific information investigators are seeking from either Mr Darko or Ms Dwumah.
It also did not indicate whether any formal charges had been brought against either individual in connection with the alleged conspiracy.
The Office emphasised that its investigations remained active and are progressing according to its case theory.
“EOCO wishes to emphasise that investigations into this matter are progressing steadily according to its case theory,” the statement said.
It added that no conclusion had been reached regarding the culpability or otherwise of any person connected to the matter.
The latest statement places the estimated financial loss associated with the alleged criminal conspiracy at approximately GH¢27 million.
EOCO did not explain in the release how the revised figure was calculated, what transactions or activities accounted for the alleged loss, or how the amount compared with previous estimates.
The investigation is focused on an alleged criminal conspiracy linked to SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited, with investigators seeking information from individuals they consider relevant to establishing the facts.
The involvement of Mr Darko and Ms Dwumah in the investigation does not, in itself, establish wrongdoing. EOCO has explicitly stated that it has not reached a conclusion on the culpability of anyone connected to the case.
In its October 13 release, the Office reiterated that the investigation was ongoing and that its work was proceeding in line with its investigative theory.
The granting of enquiry bail to Mr Darko means he has been released under the terms of that bail while the investigation continues. It should not be interpreted as a determination of guilt or innocence.
Similarly, Ms Dwumah’s cooperation with investigators does not establish that she has committed an offence.
EOCO did not announce a timeline for completing the investigation or indicate when further developments might be expected.
As investigations continue, the central questions remain the circumstances surrounding the alleged financial loss, the evidence being assembled by investigators and whether that evidence will support any criminal charges.
For now, EOCO says it has yet to reach a conclusion on the culpability of any person connected to the matter.
