The Volta Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Tema Police Intelligence Department (PID) team, has conducted an intelligence-led operation at Nkonya in the Volta Region, resulting in the arrest of several individuals.
The operation, which formed part of efforts to clamp down on suspected criminal activities in the area, targeted a number of houses identified by the police as persons or locations of interest.
During the operation, the team searched about three houses and reportedly uncovered and seized a significant quantity of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.
Several individuals found at the locations were arrested and taken into police custody to assist with investigations.
According to information available, the suspects and the seized items have since been transported to Tema, where further investigations are expected to be conducted by the appropriate authorities.
The suspected narcotic substances are expected to undergo examination to establish their exact nature and composition as part of the investigative process.
The police are also expected to question the arrested individuals and establish their alleged roles, if any, in the possession, distribution or other activities connected to the seized substances.
The operation underscores ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to gather intelligence and take action against activities suspected to be linked to the illegal drug trade.
Investigations are currently ongoing, and the police are expected to determine the next legal steps after completing the necessary processes.
The identities of the suspects, the exact quantity and type of substances seized, and the specific offences for which the individuals may be charged have not yet been officially disclosed.
Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
