The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.

The results, released on Friday, September 4, 2026, are available online, while heads of participating schools have been provided with login details to access the results of their candidates.

Candidates who wish to check their results individually can do so through the official WAEC Ghana website.

A total of 512,862 candidates, comprising 225,270 males and 287,592 females, from 1,022 schools were registered for the examination.

The 2026 entry figure represents an 11.07% increase over the 461,736 candidates who registered for the 2025 examination.

However, 5,049 candidates, representing 0.98% of the total entry, were absent from the examination.

WAEC’s provisional statistics show varying performance across the four core subjects.

In English Language, 315,094 candidates, representing 62.40%, obtained grades A1 to C6. A further 49,771 candidates (9.86%) obtained D7, 37,080 (7.34%) obtained E8, while 55,940 (11.08%) received F9.

For Integrated Science, 309,605 candidates, representing 60.75%, obtained A1 to C6. Some 54,420 candidates (10.80%) obtained D7, 54,121 (10.74%) obtained E8 and 74,692 (14.82%) received F9.

In Social Studies, 393,918 candidates, representing 62.08%, obtained A1 to C6. Another 54,649 (10.96%) obtained D7, 46,526 (9.33%) received E8, while 76,136 (15.27%) obtained F9.

Core Mathematics recorded the strongest A1-C6 performance, with 306,234 candidates, representing 78.04%, attaining the grades.

A total of 35,435 candidates (7.81%) obtained D7, 25,253 (5.00%) obtained E8, while 39,416 candidates (7.81%) received F9.

WAEC’s four-year comparison indicates that performance in Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies fluctuated between 2023 and 2026.

English Language, however, recorded a progressive decline over the same period, falling from 73.11% in 2023 to 62.40% in 2026 in the proportion of candidates obtaining A1 to C6.

WAEC has also announced sanctions against candidates found to have engaged in examination irregularities.

Following investigations into cases recorded during the examination, the Ghana Examinations Committee at its 42nd meeting on August 7, 2026 approved the cancellation of subject results for 7,434 candidates who brought foreign materials, including prepared notes, textbooks and printed materials, into examination halls.

The entire results of 861 candidates were cancelled for possessing mobile phones in examination halls.

In addition, subject results of 957 candidates and the entire results of 270 candidates have been withheld over various suspected offences.

WAEC said subject results of candidates from 169 schools have also been withheld over alleged collusion.

Those cases remain under investigation, with the Council indicating that the affected results could either be released or cancelled depending on the outcome of the investigations.

A decision on the withheld results is expected by October 30, 2026.

Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been directed to use WAEC’s irregularity and investigations portal to determine the reasons for the action and find information on the next steps.

The Council has cautioned candidates, parents and other stakeholders against fraudsters who claim they can upgrade examination results in exchange for money.

WAEC said its results are secured and can be authenticated through its results verification system.

Candidates can also download the WAEC QR code to verify the authenticity of their results.

The Council expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, school heads, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and other stakeholders for their support in conducting the examination and releasing the results.
