At least sixteen people, mostly women and children, are feared dead following a tragic boat accident on the Volta Lake in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region.
The victims, believed to be of Fulbe extraction, were reportedly traveling from Prang in the Bono East Region to communities in the Central Gonja District when the incident occurred on Wednesday, April 8, between Adavukpe and Sikakpe.
According to sources, the boat described as a small passenger vessel capsized after being hit by strong winds.
Rescue efforts are currently underway, with nine bodies recovered so far. Search operations continue for the remaining victims.
All sixteen passengers on board are feared to have perished in the incident.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
