The Ghana Police Service, through the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team (SOT), in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, has arrested 24 suspects in a major intelligence led operation aimed at combating criminal activities across parts of the Ashanti Region.
The operation, conducted in Kodie, Apagya, Dechemso, Old Tafo Ahenbronum, Ahodwo and Abofour, forms part of ongoing efforts by the Police Service to enhance public safety and clamp down on criminal networks operating within the region.
According to a press release issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit on July 2, 2026, the operation specifically targeted suspected drug peddlers and other criminal elements. In all, 24 suspects, made up of 21 males and three females, were arrested.
Among the suspects is 49 year old Richmond Okyere, who was allegedly found in possession of a pump action gun bearing serial number 21GN-1918. The remaining suspects are assisting police with investigations into various suspected criminal offences.
The operation also led to the retrieval of a significant quantity of suspected narcotic substances, firearms and other items believed to be linked to criminal activities. Exhibits seized include an unregistered Toyota Highlander, an unregistered Toyota Camry saloon vehicle, a Mercedes Benz saloon car with registration number AS 8724-Z, an unregistered motorcycle, a pump action gun, seven rounds of AAA cartridges, and a fireproof high security safe.
Police also recovered 489 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, parcels and sealed packages of suspected narcotic substances, 90 tablets of 225mg Tramadol, 140 tablets of 250mg Tramadol, 11 tablets of Royal 225mg, 38 narcotics processing materials, bottles of Femude drink suspected to have been laced with narcotic substances, 40 locally made toffees suspected to contain narcotics, three boxes of African Viagra, 52 lighters, 12 crushers, quantities of ash residue believed to be associated with narcotics use, a Dell laptop, two LED television sets and various sums of money suspected to be proceeds from the sale of illicit drugs.
The Police said all the suspects remain in custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations, while the exhibits have been retained for evidential purposes. Suspects found culpable will be arraigned before the courts upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to sustained intelligence led operations to combat drug related offences, violent crime and other forms of criminality across the country.
The Service also appealed to members of the public to support law enforcement efforts by volunteering credible information on criminal activities through the nearest police station or designated emergency channels.
