Three people have been confirmed dead, while eleven others have sustained critical injuries following a fatal road accident at Ajumako Kokoben in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region.
The crash, which occurred along the Ajumako Kokoben stretch, involved a Toyota Isuzu pickup truck with registration number GE 1361-25 and a Toyota Voxy with registration number CN 478-26.
Preliminary investigations by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) indicate that the Toyota Voxy was allegedly overtaking another vehicle at a high speed when the driver encountered poor visibility caused by a thick cloud of dust on the road.
According to the GNFS, the driver reportedly failed to see the approaching Toyota Isuzu pickup truck, leading to a violent head-on collision between the two vehicles.
The impact of the crash left both vehicles severely damaged, with several occupants trapped inside the wreckage.
Firefighters from the Breman Asikuma Fire Station, led by Asikuma Fire Commander DO3 Christian Davidson, responded to an emergency distress call and quickly arrived at the scene to undertake rescue operations.
Using specialized rescue equipment, the team successfully extricated four victims who were trapped inside one of the vehicles.
Before the arrival of the emergency responders, some good Samaritans and passersby at the scene had already rescued seven other victims from the mangled vehicles.
The injured victims, who suffered varying degrees of injuries, were handed over to personnel from the Ghana National Ambulance Service and other medical teams for immediate attention.
They were subsequently transported to nearby health facilities for further treatment.
However, three victims were pronounced dead due to the severity of injuries sustained in the crash.
Their bodies have since been deposited at a nearby morgue, pending identification and further investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations to establish the exact circumstances that led to the accident.
Authorities have meanwhile cautioned motorists to exercise maximum care on the roads, particularly on dusty routes where visibility can be severely affected.
Drivers have also been advised to avoid reckless overtaking, reduce speed, and observe road safety regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
