The Agona Swedru Magistrate Court has remanded 34-year-old Awudu Usman into police custody for two weeks following a major drug bust and a failed attempt to bribe law enforcement officials.
The suspect was apprehended during a high-stakes operation led by the Agona Swedru District Police command on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
At approximately 08:30 hours, a police team spearheaded by District Commander ASP Ms. Vida Yankey and District Crime Officer ASP Mrs. Erica Naab conducted a targeted sweep along the Agona Asafo and Agona Kwesitwikrom roads.
During the exercise, officers intercepted a taxi cab (registration number GR 2932-26).
A thorough search of the vehicle revealed 4 nylon sacks concealed within the car coupled with 154 compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be narcotics.
Following the initial discovery, two suspects, Godfred Acquah (28) and Awudu Usman (34), were taken into custody.
Usman subsequently claimed ownership of the illegal substances and led the police to his residence in Asisim, a suburb of Agona Swedru.
A secondary search of the premises yielded an additional 55 slabs, bringing the total haul to 209 compressed slabs of suspected narcotics.
In a desperate bid to evade justice, the suspects reportedly offered the police team a bribe of GH₵ 100,000.
The officers strictly rejected the offer, maintaining professional integrity and proceeding with the criminal charges.
The suspects were arraigned today before the Agona Swedru Magistrate Court.
The court presided by His Worship Victor Kusi, ordered that Awudu Usman be remanded for two weeks to allow the police further time for investigation.
