The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested a 57-year-old man suspected of engaging in a series of shoplifting activities at retail outlets across several parts of southern Ghana.

The suspect, identified as Nsiah Samuel, was arrested on Thursday, November 5, 2026, by the Somanya District Police Command following intelligence gathering in collaboration with the Borteyman Police in Accra.

His arrest follows the circulation of a video on TikTok and other social media platforms showing suspected shoplifting incidents, which attracted public attention.

In a press release dated November 7, 2026, the Eastern Regional Police Command said the suspect is a self-acclaimed chief and minister of the gospel residing at Akrade in the Eastern Region.

According to the Police, the suspect admitted during interrogation to stealing various items, including consumables, electronic gadgets, clothing and other goods from retail outlets.

The police statement indicated that the alleged activities took place in several communities and commercial centres, including Kibi, Suhum, Ashaiman, Accra Central, Koforidua, Tema, Akosombo and Adenta, as well as other locations across southern Ghana.

The suspect has since been handed over to the Borteyman Police for further investigations.

Although the Police have not disclosed the specific value of the items allegedly stolen or the number of shops affected, the arrest is expected to support further investigations into the reported incidents.

The Eastern Regional Police Command has expressed appreciation to members of the public whose vigilance and sharing of information on social media contributed to the suspect’s identification and eventual arrest.

The Police have also underscored the importance of public cooperation and the timely sharing of credible information in supporting law enforcement efforts to combat crime.

The arrest comes amid growing public attention to videos of suspected theft incidents shared on social media, with the latest development highlighting the role of public information in assisting police investigations.

Further details are expected as investigations continue.
