The Ghana Police Service has intensified its fight against armed robbery in the Volta Region, leading to the arrest of three suspected members of a robbery network operating in Akatsi and surrounding communities.
The operation, spearheaded by the Special Operations Assistant (SOA) to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), followed a series of reported robbery incidents that had heightened fear among residents in the area.
On April 21, 2026, the SOA team arrested a suspect identified as Enoch Adoglo at Gavekope.
Acting on intelligence gathered during the operation, the team extended their search to the outskirts of the community, where they apprehended Cephas Aniwaa, a blacksmith believed to be responsible for manufacturing and supplying weapons to the robbery syndicate.
A third suspect, David Adzinu, was also picked up in the coordinated swoop.
A subsequent search conducted by the police uncovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition.
The items retrieved included seven single-barrel rifles, five locally manufactured pistols, one revolver, and a variety of ammunition, including 64 rounds of ACP ammunition, 11 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and four rounds of 7.62 x 51 ammunition.
Officers also recovered live and spent BB cartridges, three mobile phones, and winding tools believed to be used in the fabrication of weapons.
Preliminary investigations have identified another suspect, Mensah Kedzi, as a key figure linked to several robberies in the area, including an incident on April 3, 2026.
He is currently on the run alongside other accomplices, including individuals identified as Akakpo, an ex-convict, and Ageh.
Police say efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.
The latest crackdown forms part of ongoing security measures aimed at restoring calm and public confidence in Akatsi and its environs, as authorities continue to urge residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing timely information.
