The Accra Regional Police Command has dismissed reports suggesting that some inmates who recently escaped from custody at the Adabraka District Police Station are connected to the murder of a relative of a prominent political figure.
In a press release issued on April 27, 2026, and signed by Head of Public Affairs, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the Command described the claims as false and misleading.
The reports had alleged that three out of six inmates who escaped from police custody on April 26 were linked to the murder of the father-in-law of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.
However, the Police clarified that none of the escapees had been detained in connection with that case, nor do they have any ties to the incident.
“The individuals involved were never held at the Adabraka Police Station in relation to the said case and are not connected to it in any way,” the statement emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Police confirmed that three of the six escapees have already been re-arrested following what it described as swift and coordinated action by officers.
Efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining three suspects.
Authorities have also launched a full-scale investigation into the circumstances that led to the escape, while intensifying a manhunt to ensure the remaining fugitives are apprehended and brought to justice.
The Command reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order and called on citizens to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining escapees.
Members of the public with credible information are urged to report to the nearest police station.
