The Royal government of Cambodia, through the general department of immigration under the Ministry of Interior, has issued a stern notice to African nationals residing in the country, warning them to leave before May 31, 2026, or face severe legal consequences.
The directive, captured in an official notice signed by Lt. Gen. Som Sopheak, Director General of the general department of immigration, applies to all African nationals in Cambodia, including citizens of Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda and several other African countries.
According to the notice, the waiver previously granted to the affected foreign nationals will officially expire on May 31, 2026.
The Cambodian authorities stated that all foreign nationals whose immigration fines have already been cleared are expected to depart the country on or before the stated deadline.
The government further warned that any foreign national found entering, remaining or hiding in Cambodia from June 1, 2026, onward would be arrested either at the airport or at any location within the country.
Under the new enforcement measures, affected individuals could face a two-year jail term as well as an $8,000 fine before they would be permitted to leave Cambodia.
The notice also revealed that the Cambodia Police will begin nationwide operations from June 1 to arrest foreigners staying illegally in the country.
Authorities indicated that security personnel would search for and apprehend individuals found at various hideouts across Cambodia for overstaying their visas or violating immigration regulations.
The general department of immigration emphasized that the Royal government of Cambodia would not tolerate any violation of the country’s immigration laws and urged all affected persons to strictly comply with the directive.
“Your cooperation is highly appreciated,” the statement said.
The notice was approved by Gen. Sar Sokha, Secretary of State at Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior.
