The Ministry of the Interior has issued a public safety advisory urging the general public to exercise extreme caution following heavy rains and widespread flooding recorded in several parts of the country on Monday morning.
In a statement released on June 29, 2026, the Ministry advised members of the public to avoid unnecessary movement and remain in safe locations until weather conditions improve.
According to the Ministry, individuals who are already at home should stay indoors, while those at workplaces or other secure locations are encouraged to remain there until it is safe to travel.
“As a precautionary public safety measure, members of the public are advised to remain where they are until conditions improve,” the statement said.
The Ministry further warned motorists and pedestrians against attempting to drive or walk through flooded roads, bridges, and waterways, stressing that rising floodwaters pose a serious threat to life and property.
Authorities noted that emergency response agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Ghana Armed Forces, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), have been deployed to monitor the situation and provide assistance where necessary.
The agencies are expected to support affected residents, manage traffic congestion in flood-hit areas, and undertake rescue operations.
Residents living in flood-prone communities have also been advised to relocate to higher ground where possible and immediately report emergencies or persons in distress to the nearest security agency or emergency response team.
The Ministry appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with directives issued by security and emergency officials while relying solely on official communication channels for updates and information.
